LOVE Sovereign Earth 18
Let the way of the heart let the way of the heart
Let the way of the heart shine through
Let the way of the heart let the way of the heart
Let the way of the heart shine through
Love upon love upon Love
All Hearts are beating as one
Light upon Light upon Light
Burning as bright as the Sun
Love is such an elusive and mysterious presence
Where does it come from?
Where does it go?
Can we even prove that it exists? As far as I’m aware, the scientific method can’t capture love.
It doesn’t ‘fit’
We can perhaps measure some of its effects : Changed hormone levels, or electrical impulses through the skin and body.
However, its true essence remains ‘something else’
Yet i’m imagining there is nobody listening or viewing or reading this who hasn’t some personal concept, idea and above all ‘experience’ of what love is or what it is ‘to be in love’
‘To be or not to be that is the question’
To love or not to love – That is the answer
“It is only in the mysterious equation of love that any logical reasons can be found.” Erich Fromm
“Everyone admits that love is wonderful and necessary – yet no one agrees on just what it is” Diane Ackerman
Every day is sacred every day is pure
Every day is sacred every day is pure
When I see with Eyes of Love
When I hear with Ears of Love
When I hold with Arms of Love
What’s amazing is to gain a sense of this love pervading and permeating the Universe
I sense that and experience it as being true – of being real – yet it cannot be ‘proved’
I would suggest that just as there is a logical, apparent and rational explanation to things, so there is an equal and opposite truth: an irrational, illogical, inexplicable side to the world and to all that exists. This love mystery extending throughout all beings – not just all animals fish and birds, but throughout the plant world, the fungal and microscopic worlds and into streams and earth and the very ‘body of the earth’ itself. This is why love is so important in the retrieving of our relationship with Sovereign Earth and why it is included here as a core need as we reclaim our ‘love of the earth’.
“Love is the force that that transforms and improves the soul of the world” Paolo Coelho.
And of course that same love extends further – out into furthest space and the most distant galaxy – it is an ever present constant – at least for anyone who cares to tune into such things. “Tuning in” is quite a good term for me as to how love is experienced – becoming aware of that which is constantly on tap and available.
All you need is love
All you need is love
All you need is love
Love is all you need
As a celebrant, when I conduct a Handfasting ceremony, I generally invite everyone present to close their eyes and imagine opening their hearts and ‘pouring love’ into the circle where we are gathered, ready for the couple to enter and be bathed and blessed and surrounded with this magical presence. Even those who don’t subscribe to any faith or belief system, are not only capable of doing this; they are also fully capable of fully feeling it – and just about always do. Its a repeating miracle to me how this simple act can make such profound difference – not only to a particular space, but within the world more generally.
It is as if we swim in a sea of love.
Lets just try and gain a sense of that for a moment: Imagine ourselves coming together in a circle – as a sacred grove of trees in a beautiful and loving forest.
Let our love flow into the circle before us – forming a cauldron of loving energy in our midst. Fully open our hearts and pour our love inward into the heart of our circle. Then allow ourselves to gently and gracefully walk forward into the warmth and holding of that supremely loving energy. Allow ourselves to bathe in that love for a few moments ….. then to turn and offer that love fully and unconditionally “out into the world”
Beloved One Rest in me Rest in you
Rest in Me rest in you rest in me
Beloved One Rest in me Rest in you
Rest in Me rest in you rest in me
For I was born to love you
I was born to love you
You set me free
You set me free
You set me free
You set me free
In the ancient language of Sanskrit there are something in the region of 94 words for LOVE as opposed to the one we have in the English language.
Sanskrit is THE language of Love. It suggests that love was more intimatly understood, more radically celebrated and more embodied in the core of everything that the culture which spoke that language expressed. We cannot know for sure. Nonetheless, I would like to imagine that the language of love might become much more prevalent again, such that our fundamental love of Sovereign Earth can be expressed fully. Then she might reciprocate and respond by coming fully back into health to reflect that love.
Perhaps that is also why the Latin word for Love – Amor – is to be found embedded in the word ROMA which is amor backwards – Love within the very being of the city – and after all, it is known as the city of love.
‘Let tenderness pour from your eyes, the way the sun gazes warmly on the Earth’. So said the poet Hafiz several hundred years ago.
“And we’ve got to get ourselves back to the garden.” Joni Mitchel
One important aspect of love from my own experience is how keeping the heart open in love – both to oneself and others – when it is breaking, is a powerful, if painful, transformation. It feels counter intuitive, because the whole of one’s being screams to hide away and close down. However to the extent you can hold your heart open in difficult times, I believe it has the power to transform us for the better. More than that; for the best 🙂
This song I wrote a few years ago provides an expression of the unconditional and universal love I have felt since I was child.
The Ocean refuses no River
The Sky refuses no Cloud
The Leaf refuses no sunlight
The Heart refuses no Wound
The Mountain refuses no Eagle
The Lake refuses no Swan
The stream refuses no Heron
The Heart refuses no Song
The Field refuses no Raindrop
The Flower refuses no Bee
The Heart refuses no Healing
Let Love unfold unto Thee
What in the end survives us? What in the end is more important than love?
“Love is choice you make from moment to moment” Barbara de Angelis
Shakespeare’s love sonnet 116
‘Let me not to the marriage of true minds
Admit impediments. Love is not love
Which alters when it alteration finds,
Or bends with the remover to remove.
O no! it is an ever-fixed mark
That looks on tempests and is never shaken;
It is the star to every wand’ring bark,
Whose worth’s unknown, although his height be taken.
Love’s not Time’s fool, though rosy lips and cheeks
Within his bending sickle’s compass come;
Love alters not with his brief hours and weeks,
But bears it out even to the edge of doom.
If this be error and upon me prov’d,
I never writ, nor no man ever lov’d.’
